First Lady Speeches

Here are the notes we took in class on Tuesday on the speeches by Ann Romney (RNC, 2012) and Michelle Obama (DNC, 2012). What do you notice about the vision that each woman presents about her political party and candidate?

Social Justice Event Assignment

In the syllabus it explains that you have to attend two public social justice events this semester, and write them up as an assignment on your blog (15% of your course grade). Many of you will attend the GEND films that are listed in your syllabus. Others of you may attend the Promising Practices conference on November 3 or find events on campus during Diversity Week; others of you will find interesting events off campus to attend. For any of these events, you need to create a blog post (due Nov. 30 by midnight) that meets the following three criteria:

1) Describe the event(s) in detail. Your post should be no fewer than 750 word but may be much longer if needed.

2) Make connections to three course readings and themes to help you analyze the events. What does this event have to do with feminism as we have discussed it in class?

3) Include pictures and links to at least three external web resources to help explain the meaning of this event.
